James Wallace Collins was a farmer in Xenia, Ohio. During the civil war he served in the 154th O.V.I. (Ohio Volunteer Infantry) He was an elder in the Second (Presbyterian?) Church in Xenia, Ohio.

According to his grandson, John Oliver Collins
James Wallace Collins frequently visited his son, Archibald Ralph Collins, and his family when they were living in Ohio, Canada, and Texas.
