McNitt, John (1789-1866):
Served under Commodore Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie (1813) and married his cousin Ann McNitt (4) (daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Scott) McNitt (3).) Eventually settled in McClean County, Illinois around 1852. Adopted three children, including their great-great-nephew John T. R. Gourley (1858-1921).
