Robert Cummins was born in Northern Ireland in 1785, a son of William and Sarah (Semple) Cummins. William died in Mifflin County during the summer of 1817, were he had lived since 1791. He owned 364 acres of land in the Reedsville area, and also two large farms in Jackson Township. A cooper, by trade, he had a shop where wooden barrels were produced.
